A regional office of the international company Mercuria Energy Group has officially opened in Astana, marking a new platform for the development of long-term cooperation in Kazakhstan. The opening ceremony was attended by Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Kazakhmys Nurmukhambet Abdibekov, Mercuria Group co-founder Marco Dunand and CEO, Head of Central Asia and the Caspian Region Timur Suleimenov, and Head of Kazakhstan Aktan Abdykerim.
The opening of the office represents another stage in the growing cooperation between Kazakhmys and Mercuria, aimed at strengthening collaboration in the fields of industry, energy, logistics, and advanced production solutions.
In his welcoming remarks, Nurmukhambet Abdibekov noted that the permanent presence of the partners in the capital would provide a powerful boost to long-term cooperation.
Marco Dunand, in turn, expressed strong confidence in the success of the joint initiatives:
The cooperation between Kazakhmys and Mercuria is based on a long-term partnership and is focused on developing modern and sustainable production approaches. The parties intend to expand cooperation in improving operational efficiency, implementing advanced technological solutions, digitalizing production processes, and enhancing environmental and industrial standards.
As part of the partnership, special attention will also be given to social investment and the development of Kazakhstan’s workforce potential. Through the newly opened platform, the companies plan to launch ongoing knowledge-transfer programs. Kazakh specialists and talented young people will gain a unique opportunity to receive training according to international standards in areas that are currently in short supply within the industry, including global risk management, compliance, complex supply chain management, and project financing in the industrial sector.
In addition, Kazakhmys and Mercuria intend to significantly expand support for local communities directly in the mining regions and single-industry towns where the company operates. Joint initiatives will focus on modernizing local educational infrastructure, supporting specialized technical education for young people, developing both hard and soft professional skills, and financing socially significant projects that contribute to the long-term economic growth of the regions.
