On Feb 19th 2010, the managing director of Mercuria Energy Asset Management BV, laid the foundation stone for Vesta Biofuels Amsterdam, a new biodiesel production facility in Westport Amsterdam.

With an annual capacity of 200,000 tonnes of biodiesel, the Vesta Biofuels plant will run on a variety of vegetable oil feedstocks including rapeseed and soy oil and will be the biggest of its kind in Amsterdam according to the port authorities.

The core activity of Vesta Biofuels will be the production of high-quality biodiesel (Fatty Acid Methyl Esters) meeting the specific customer requirements. It will form part of a project to expand biofuel activities in the port, and will be built on the terminal of tank storage firm Oiltanking Amsterdam.

The construction started in January 2010 and is scheduled to be completed in summer 2011.

This new production unit will compliment Vesta Biofuels Brunsbüttel, a German modern biodiesel production manufacture that Mercuria recently acquired.
